Government 2026 Sponsored Schemes - Colorectal Cancer Screening Services
2026.1.6

According to the Centre for Health Protection, colorectal cancer is one of the most common cancers in Hong Kong. However, it is not easily detected in its early stages and has remained the second most fatal cancer in the city for many years. In 2023, there were 5,467 new cases of malignant tumours of the colon, rectum, and anus (commonly known as colorectal cancer), accounting for 14.4% of all new cancer cases. During the same year, 2,266 people died from colorectal cancer.

The purpose of colorectal cancer screening is to detect the disease at an early stage, even before any symptoms appear, so that timely treatment can be provided and the patient’s chance of recovery can be improved.

The 2026 government-funded colorectal cancer screening program has started on January 1.
As long as you meet the following qualifications, you can go to all Human Health medical centers for free testing:
1. Born between 1950 and 1976, holding a Hong Kong Identity Card# or Certificate of Exemption from Registration; and
2. People who have no symptoms or high-risk factors for colorectal cancer (such as family history), and who have not had colorectal cancer screening or examination within the specified period.

The colorectal cancer screening program is funded by the government. Eligible persons can undergo a stool immunochemical test for free.

If the result is positive and services such as polypectomy or colonoscopy are required, doctors will only charge a small fee to the participants. Additional fee of $1,000. Relevant screening can identify asymptomatic colorectal cancer patients or high-risk individuals early, allowing them to receive early treatment, greatly improving the cure rate.

Many general and specialist doctors at Human Health have registered to participate in this program and can provide colorectal cancer screening, colonoscopy and polypectomy services to eligible persons. Human Health's general medical center also accepts on-site registration. For details, you can search for and call the Human Health medical center near you through the "Find Us and Booking" function in the upper right corner of this website.
