Human Health Medical Center is offering free administration of the "Left Flu Right Lung" vaccine — quadrivalent influenza vaccine and pneumococcal vaccine for eligible individuals.

Seasonal influenza can trigger symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, muscle aches, fatigue, and headaches. During peak periods of influenza and pneumonia outbreaks, the risk of influenza patients developing bacterial community-acquired pneumonia significantly increases, creating a "double whammy." Secondary bacterial pneumonia can lead to fatalities among influenza patients. Therefore, it is essential not only to prevent influenza but also to prevent pneumococcal infection.

In Hong Kong, the winter influenza season typically begins in January, and the high-risk groups for pneumococcal infection include young children, the elderly, and those with chronic illnesses. Infection with pneumococci can lead to severe diseases such as otitis media, pneumonia, meningitis, bacteremia, and sepsis.

Therefore, the Hong Kong Department of Health recommends that eligible individuals receive the quadrivalent influenza vaccine and pneumococcal vaccine as soon as possible to prevent the "double whammy" and protect their health.

Eligible individuals for the seasonal influenza vaccine include:

  • Individuals aged 50 or above
  • For more details on other eligible groups, please click here.

Eligible individuals for the pneumococcal vaccine include:

  • Hong Kong residents aged 65 or above (different types of vaccines may be selected based on individual circumstances; please inquire with staff for details)
